April 1969 - 'I started a joke' - 'F... comme femme'

'Beto Rockefeller' was a TV Tupi series which started on 4 November 1968 running for 1 year up to 30 November 1969. It told the story of a working-class young-man (Luiz Gustavo) who works at a posh shoe-shop and ingratiates himself with the well-to-do.

Soap-operas had been popular since TV started in the early 1950s but 'Beto Rockfeller' expanded its appeal and claimed the 8:00 PM time-slot for itself. It also introduced Anglo-American pop-hits identifying each major characters with a particular song.

British band Bee Gees was the first to have a # 1 with 'I started a joke' which was exposed heavily at the nightly drama. 'F... comme femme' written and performed by Belgian Salvatore Adamo shot to the top too.

Before 1969 was over more songs featured in 'Beto Rockfeller' would climb up to #1 either as a single or extended-play: 'Sentado à beira do caminho' with Erasmo Carlos singing in Portuguese (actually the only exception) and the up-tempo 'Nobody but me' with Ohio band Human Beinz went viral.

'I'm gonna get married', a cover done by Sunday, a Brazilian band of a Lou Christie's B-side single (having 'I'm gonna make you mine' on the flip-side) went to #1 as an E.P. crossing over well into 1970.

The Fortunes' 1965 hit 'You've got your troubles' ( I've got mine) was revived and covered by Jack Jones and even teary 'Dio come ti amo' from 1965 was revived yet again with Gigliola Cinquetti.

Os Mutantes were initially a strictly São Paulo-affair until they became well-known after their presentation at TV Record's 1967 pop-music festival with '2001'. In late 1968, they took Maracanãzinho's arena by storm and Rio de Janeiro fell in love with their irreverance - Rita Lee showed up dressed up in a bride's gown with a protruding belly and the boys wore medieval clothes - at the IV FIC festival in Rio with 'Caminhante noturno'.

Intervalo n. 331, was the last time an Ibope chart was published by Editora Abril. We don't know why it was discontinued but we suppose it must've been related to money matters.

So now we're in a situation we don't know what should be done. There's only one-third of 1969's charts. Should we compile only that or wait for more information to pop up some time somehow?
