5. Se a vida fôsse um sonho - Orlando Dias (Odeon)
Engineer and bird-enthusiast Johan Dalgas Frisch's 2nd album was a best seller in the first week of its release.
Orquestra Namorados do Caribe was an RCA contraption to cash in on the popularity of Nilo Sergio's Musidisc's Orquestra Românticos de Cuba. The formulae was simple: get 6 hits and add up to another 6 non-hits, play them with a lot of bongos having the sound of a thousand violins (actually less than a dozen) in the background and you'll have a winner. The hits here are 'Tender is the night', 'Angustia' and 'Stella by starlight'; the other 9 tracks are 'evergreens' revisited. Band-leader Aristides Zacarias (born 5 January 1911, in Jaboticabal-SP) is the arranger and the orchestra is made up of members of Zacarias' older bands.

4. Caribe à noite - Orquestra Namorados do Caribe (RCA)
5. As melhores do ano - Élcio Álvarez e sua Orquestra (Chantecler)
Band-leader and arranger Elcio Alvarez was Chantecler's Wizard of Oz. Actually, Elcio Alvarez was Chantecler's Midas because almost everything he touched turned gold. His were most of the arrangements of the many Chantecler singers who took to the top of the charts during 1961 and 1962. He not only wrote arrangements for others but recorded his own albums every now and then and they sold well. 'As Melhores do Ano' (The best of the year) is almost like reading the week's best selling list.
Osny Silva had been around for quite sometime. He was past his prime now. He was dumped by EMI-Odeon but found a nice home at Continental Discos. He lost an Y in Osni but apparently kept on selling records even though they were only covers of other people's hits. His photo was discarded for that of a semi-naked blonde... well, Continental's producer Diogo Mulero knew what he was doing.

As Ângela Maria left Copacabana Discos for Continental Discos and then signed by RCA Victor, Copacabana put out an 'Ângela Maria Greatest Hits' with 16 of her best earlier hits like the beautiful Ivon Curi's 'Escuta', the amazingly poignant 'Vida de bailarina' written by comedian Chocolate (Dorival Silva); Waldir Rocha's unforgettable 'Labios de mel' plus Margarita Lecuona's voodoo called 'Babalu'; 'Fosforo queimado' etc. It is the very best Ângela had recorded for Copacabana in the 1950s.
a very young Ângela Maria is embraced by superstar Carmen Miranda during her last visit to Rio de Janeiro in 1955. It's plain to see that Carmen was 'at the end of the line' while Ângela was exuding good health. Ângela was the 'great white hope' (even though she was a Negro) of Brazilian music but somewhere along the line she got lost and started recording poor material. She was still good but not as much. Due to poor choice of repertoire Ângela went from bad to worse. She had a sort of a 2nd chance in 1962-1963 when she moved to RCA Victor but was back at Copacabana Discos in another year... back to her old ways of mediocrity.

Even though Nelson Gonçalves was not at the top of the single's charts as he used to do up to 1961, he still sold a lot of albums. In 'Na voz de Nelson Gonçalves' he recorded covers of Moacyr Franco's (Suave é a noite-Tender is the night), Miltinho's ('Poema do olhar'/'Poema do adeus'/'Meu nome é ninguém') and covers of himself ('A volta do boêmio'/'Maria Bethania'). Chantecler kept releasing Leila Silva's albums but she desperately needed some single's action. EMI-Odeon introduced Altemar Dutra to the São Paulo press in a cocktail in April 1963. Altemar would be a consistent chart maker forever.

Rosana Toledo had been around for quite some time but never really hit the big time. Even though she was quite a good singer she was condemned to record other people's hits. Francisco Petrônio started his career in his late 30s but caught it with success soon enough. Albertinho Fortuna had been around for a while was signed by Continental's Diogo Mulero and made an album of covers too. The title refers to Luiz Vieira's masterpiece 'Preludio para ninar gente grande'. Agnaldo Rayol also recorded Luiz Vieira's 'Prelúdio...' in his 'Plenitude'.
