'Theme from 'A summer place' ('Amôres clandestinos' in Brazilian Portuguese) was released by both Columbia (with the original Percy Faith) and Dot-RGE (with Billy Vaughn, the King of Covers). It was a mortal battle between the 2 versions to top the charts. Extended-play-wise Billy Vaughn had the upper hand while in the singles' chart it was Percy Faith who won the race.
Instrumental music ruled supreme in the Extended-play and Album formats. Ray Conniff was King.
Don Taylor et son Orchester, an obscure singer-band-leader no one seems to know what nationality did a pretty decent cover of Lloyd Price's 'Personality' for French independent label Versailles and took it to Number One in the Brazilian charts.
Versailles was a French label co-founded by Bruno Coquatrix (1910-1979) and Ray Ventura (1908-1979). Sacha Distel (Ray Ventura's nephew) was the artistic manager. Distributed in the USA by United Telefilm Records Inc.. Also a French distributor for American labels Atlantic from 1956 to 1958 and Dot Records from 1956 to 1960. In July 1956 was announced Spanish label Belter recordings would be released by Versailles.
João Gilberto sings 4 songs from Marcel Camus' 1959 Academy Award 'Black Orpheus' (Orfeu do Carnaval) voted best foreign movie by the Academy in Hollywood; João Gilberto would make a career for himself in the USA as of 1963; 'Leny in Las Vegas' shows a robust Leny Eversong in Las Vegas where she was a regular entertainer.
Nelson Gonçalves could do no wrong from 1958 to 1961; Agostinho dos Santos covers Dolores Duran's 'Fim de caso'.
Tito Madi is shown singing 'Menina moça' and 'Sonho e saudade' next to pianist Ribamar in Carlos Hugo Christensen's 'Matemática, 0... amor, 10' with Susana Freyre; Neil Sedaka sings 'Stairway to heaven' b/w 'Forty winks away' in a 45 rpm vynil single.
